Forensic

The clock was ticking ten, and all that we wanted to do was unwind - the day had come to an end and now it was time to relax; so, there we all sat, together as a family, ready to search for something to take our minds off the monotony of our daily lives. It was Friday, so we had to obviously pick a movie, right? But little did we know the film would be this suspenseful thriller revolving around murders that involved sweet, little innocent children who went disappearing on birthday parties. The movie's called Forensic, and oh my, it was so amazingly directed that not at even one point of the movie could my eyebrows stay in their normal position - they were somehow always furrowed; and I came to realize this only when a song was played in the movie, because my eyes were literally so stuck to the screen throughout that I, myself, wasn't aware of my funny yet scared facial expressions that took form during some quite seriously captivating scenes, I suppose. I have honestly never seen such an impressively directed bollywood thriller in all these years that I've been a movie buff. Forensic was definitely terrifying at points, and there's no doubt about that, but the plot, the characters, the whole film together is such a masterpiece! The actors are super duper talented - the whole team's efforts were clearly visible and absolutely commendable; the scary senior citizens, the super skilled adults and the cute little children - they've worked together and created such a masterpiece. Our eyes were so badly glued to the screen that it took a lot of convincing to take even a small 5 minute break from this movie, and even in that five minute break, we, as a family, just couldn't resist discussing why a certain character smiled the way she did, why she was walking the way she did, and why she was moving her hands the way she did. The direction has been done in such an engrossing manner that the suspect switches from one to another within minutes - and every time, it's an entirely new suspect with a whole new motive to be a murderer, 'the birthday killer' as the characters called it. The whole police team was extremely determined to investigate not just one but so many death cases which were linked to one another - and eventually led back to the same person. Radhika Apte, Prachi Desai and Vikrant Massey have portrayed their characters (who are total masterminds btw) so confidently, and the result of their work is genuinely evident. I really appreciate the way in which the team has tried to inculcate various modern concepts into the movie as well - from normalizing taking therapy for wellbeing to the attempt at gender reversal, all these elements added up to give the movie a fresh element. The consequences of the therapy sessions conducted in this story were definitely uhm....okay I'll just refrain from spoiling the movie. But the emphasis on how dangerous and harmful the consequences of a traumatic childhood can be seemed to be a relatively new concept for a bollywood movie, and it was carried out in a quite riveting and unexpected manner, which is very remarkable. I actually feel so proud that Indian cinema is progressing so well and moving ahead, moving forward - introducing new ideas and concepts to the people while entertaining them simultaneously. I feel especially proud when I see movies and shows that break stereotypes in an informative yet entertaining manner; and, I could observe quite a few parts of this film wherein I felt that a stereotype was being broken, or something that the Indian audience is usually not-so-familiar with was being introduced. The best part was that this was a bollywood movie, yet not all about romance; so it broke another stereotype, I guess - that all bollywood films are about love. And if you are a believer of that, let me tell you, that is an absolute lie; but it is completely true that bollywood movies do tend to revolve around 'pyar'and 'ishq' a majority of the times. The couple was hardly romanticising everything in this film, instead, they were trying to work towards their collective goal professionally. And, how could I forget?! The ending of this film is just chef's kiss - it is truly something no one could have seen coming, something that would make your eyes pop and mouth drop. I honestly believe that anyone who watches this would have their eyes clinging to the TV, as this is a tremendously gripping work of art! I also can't begin to explain how eagerly I am waiting for a sequel to this (hoping that it is equally captivating).

I love how movies allow us to get a glimpse of so many different people, professions, places and cultures. It's so amazing how you could just sit at home in front of this big screen and choose to watch from such a plethora of options - and we get the opportunity to educate ourselves through these. Yes, movies may not entirely be true at all times, but many are inspired by true events - which is what makes them so informative. They open up our eyes to look at different entities from a variety of perspectives - without limiting ourselves to just one. This is what keeps me, as a watcher, HOOKED to the film. I can't take my eyes off a film if it, while entertaining me, also educate me about so much more there is to life outside my world.
