Literature & Why I Like It

It is psychologically proven that people don’t remember facts, they remember feelings. Literature, as we know it, is a resource, an art form of expression – one that combines facts with feelings and captures our attention by doing so. What we read arouses certain emotions, certain feelings within us. It sparks them instantly if we feel a connection – and literature is all about establishing that connection. It is about getting to know oneself better, about learning from others’ thoughts and opinions, and forming one’s own. This is what makes Literature stand apart from the Arts. Yes, they all are equally valuable, but Literature has something special to it – it carries with it not one, but many unique qualities.

Literary compositions are not limited to the ideas that are explained in, let’s say, a textbook. They open the doors of our minds and allow them to think freely and let diverse ideas crawl in from that open entrance. Compositions give us the freedom to interpret, as well as the freedom to express – and THAT is what is special about this particular subject called ‘Literature’. No restriction is enforced upon us, rather we are encouraged to think beyond the horizon and expand our own knowledge, as well as perspective. Such stimulation makes us keen to be open and receptive towards all sorts of thoughts, feelings, ideas, opinions and expressions.
