When talking of human rights, two vital aspects that come to mind are respect for Trans rights and secondly, gender equality. Of course, there are a hundred other aspects to this, too, but CSW is mainly focused on these two, and on BIPOC movements.
Xenophobia – when certain natives start condemning people from diverse background coming in to their nation because of their fear that those people would eat into the country’s resources – be it in terms of work opportunities, infrastructure, education, or rights from the government; and hence, they often tend to take a hostile approach towards immigrants. This is one of the ways in which the seeds of racial discrimination are sown – and it seems almost impossible to prevent their growth. Racial discrimination leads to the triggering of hate, and, that, in turn, invokes conflict. This cycle seems never-ending (and to be honest, it never does end), but to find solutions to prevent this from continuing to occur is one of the CSW Committee’s many jobs.
Today, the participants enthusiastically discussed how
“it is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept and celebrate those differences.”
Trans Rights is an equally crucial topic that needs attention of the people – a topic that, in fact, craves attention; and, the discussion that took place today mainly revolved around this particular subject. All delegates had their own perspectives to this, but while their interpretations were diverse from one another, they all were working towards problem-solving regarding the same issues – Trans Rights and Gender equality. A delegate informed us of how affected communities are negatively portrayed on social media platforms, and how that is affecting the way people are starting to form their very own opinions on such sensitive topics. To solve this, they emphasized on the need to work together in such a situation wherein many innocent suffer; because, if only those who suffer speak, the problem shall grow tougher! All delegates agreed that public campaigns to spread information, public involvement, generating awareness via social media are all vital in order to help broaden humanity’s perspective and open their minds, all for their fellow human beings who are suffering for no fault of their own.
The session was great learning, and one of the key takeaways was how the definition of gender equality is not just limited to the two most common genders, but the definition also carries with it equality amongst all of the genders present. Everyone was open to sharing knowledge as well as different ideas of their own – no one was restricted, instead, they were encouraged to distribute their learnings among the others.
